Three-row crossovers have more interior space to keep clean and more places where dirt can collect. With extra footwells and doors, wet leaves, road grit and spilled drinks can quickly end up throughout the cabin.
That is especially true for the GMC Acadia, Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse. Fitment varies by model year and seating layout, so older information may not apply to newer versions.
Fall makes the issue even more noticeable. Wet leaves, frost and the first road salt of the season are easily tracked inside, especially in a family vehicle with three rows of seats.
This guide compares floor mat fitment for the Acadia, Enclave and Traverse, along with all-weather materials, seating layouts and the main details to check before ordering.
How the Redesign Changed Floor Mat Fitment?
The 2024 Acadia is noticeably larger than the previous generation. GMC says it is 10.6 inches longer and 3.2 inches taller, with nearly 80% more cargo space behind the third row and over 36% more behind the second row ([1]).
Those changes also affect the shape of the interior floor. The second-row footwells, door sills and cargo area are different, so floor mats made for the previous Acadia will not fit properly.
The Enclave was redesigned for the 2025 model year and now uses the same architecture. Buick lists the redesigned Enclave at 207.6 inches long, with a 120.93-inch wheelbase, an overall width of 79.6 inches (without mirrors) and a height of 70.98 inches ([2]).
For this reason, model year matters when choosing a mat set. A set made for a 2023 Acadia or a 2024 Enclave should not be assumed to fit the redesigned versions. Always check the exact fitment years before ordering.
GMC Acadia Floor Mats for 2024 and Newer Models
If you drive a 2024 or newer Acadia, make sure you are looking at mats made for the redesigned model. Our Thorex set fits the GMC Acadia and Acadia Denali from 2024 to 2026. The same set also covers the Chevrolet Traverse for those model years, while Buick Enclave compatibility begins with 2025 ([3]).
The Acadia is a large three-row SUV, so there is a lot of floor and cargo space to keep clean. GMC lists 23.0 cubic feet of cargo room behind the third row and up to 97.5 cubic feet with the second and third rows folded ([4]).
Seat configuration is just as important as model year. The Acadia can have seven or eight seats, depending on the trim ([4]). Our current set is designed for seven-seat models ([3]). If your Acadia has eight seats, it uses a second-row bench instead of captain's chairs, which changes the shape of the second-row floor area.
Buick Enclave Floor Mats: Fitment and All-Weather Protection
The Buick Enclave is fairly simple to match because it comes with one seating layout. It seats seven people, with two captain's chairs in the second row and a three-seat bench in the third row ([2]). There is no eight-seat version to account for.
For all-weather protection, the material makes a big difference. Our Thorex TPE mats are non-porous and have raised edges that help keep water, mud and slush away from the carpet.
Thorex TPE, or thermoplastic elastomer, is designed to stay flexible in temperatures from -4°F to 167°F and is molded for a custom fit ([5]). It also contains at least 50% recycled material, is fully recyclable and is free from BPA and formaldehyde ([5]).
For the 2025 to 2026 Enclave, our set includes floor mats, a trunk mat and a seat back protector ([3]).
Chevy Traverse Floor Mats: Check the Seat Count
With the Chevrolet Traverse, seat configuration is one of the first things to check before ordering floor mats. The LT can seat up to eight people with an available second-row bench, while the Z71, RS and High Country trims seat seven ([6]).
Cargo space is close to the Acadia. Chevrolet lists 22.9 cubic feet behind the third row, 56.6 cubic feet behind the second row and up to 98 cubic feet with the rear seats folded ([6]).
Our current floor mat set fits seven-seat Traverse models from 2024 to 2026 ([3]). If you have an eight-seat LT with a second-row bench, you will need a different second-row layout than the version designed for captain's chairs. Checking the seat configuration before ordering is the easiest way to avoid a fitment issue.
Why Custom-Fit Mats Matter in the Third Row?
Third-row footwells are rarely simple rectangles. They are usually narrower, with seat mounts, wheel wells and trim breaking up the available space. That makes this part of the cabin harder to cover well with a universal mat.
For our custom-fit mats, we use the VigorMold process. It starts with a 3D scan of the vehicle floor, followed by injection molding to reproduce its shape. Our custom-fit database covers more than 400 vehicle models, including the Acadia, Enclave and Traverse fitments referenced above ([7]).
The fit also matters around the second-row seats. In the Acadia, Enclave and Traverse, those seats move forward to open access to the third row. A mat that is too bulky or does not stay in place can interfere with that movement.
Universal mats may be fine for a rental or for occasional use. In a vehicle you use every day, a mat made for that specific floor leaves fewer gaps and is less likely to move around ([8]).
What Each Mat Actually Covers?
Floor mats do not protect every part of the interior. The main thing to understand is that each product is designed for a specific area.
Floor liners protect the footwells, cargo liners cover the load area behind the last upright row and seat back protectors cover the rear-facing side of the seats. The seat bases and undersides are not covered by these products ([5]).
The layout also changes when the third row is folded. Part of the new cargo floor is actually the back of the third-row seats, so a cargo liner designed for the seats-up position may not cover that area.
Why Floor Mat Fit and Retention Matter?
A floor mat that moves out of place can become a safety issue, especially on the driver's side. The US Department of Transportation has linked pedal entrapment to mats that are unsecured, stacked on top of other mats or not designed for the vehicle ([9]).
This has led to major recalls in the past. In 2009, Toyota recalled 3.8 million vehicles over pedal entrapment, followed by another 1.1 million vehicles in January 2010 ([9]).
A few simple checks can help reduce the risk:
- Remove the factory carpet mat before installing an all-weather mat.
- Use the vehicle's retention hooks or posts on the driver's side.
- Make sure the accelerator and brake pedals can move freely after installation.
Fit still matters in the second and third rows, even though there are no pedals. A loose mat can get in the way of a seat that slides or folds forward.
Our mats come with a lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Normal wear and intentional damage are not covered ([5]).
What to Check Before Buying Floor Mats
Before ordering, check a few details to make sure the mats match your vehicle and seating layout:
- Model year. Acadia and Traverse fitment starts with the 2024 model year, while Enclave fitment starts with 2025 ([3]). Earlier models have a different interior shape.
- Second-row layout. Check whether your vehicle has two captain's chairs or a three-seat bench. The floor mats are shaped differently for each setup ([4])([6]).
- Number of seats. Seven-seat and eight-seat versions may require different mat sets ([6]).
- What the set includes. Some listings cover only the front rows, while others include the third row, cargo area or trunk mat ([3]).
- Third-row position. If you often drive with the third row folded, check how much of the cargo floor the set will cover.
- Retention points. Make sure the driver-side hooks or posts are in place and undamaged before installing the mats ([9]).

Will a seven-seat mat set fit an eight-seat Chevy Traverse?
No. An eight-seat Traverse LT has a second-row bench, while the seven-seat versions use captain's chairs ([6]). Because the floor is different around those seats, the same second-row mats will not fit both layouts.
Do floor mats cover the third row and cargo area?
It depends on the set. Third-row mats protect the rear footwells, while a cargo liner covers the area behind the last upright row. Some of our full sets also include a trunk mat ([3]).
Can I place all-weather mats on top of the factory carpet mats?
No. Remove the factory carpet mat first. The US Department of Transportation has identified stacked floor mats as one of the situations that can lead to pedal entrapment ([9]).
