Toyota Unveils the 2026 GRMN Corolla
Toyota officially unveiled the 2026 GRMN Corolla in early June, bringing a race-bred, limited-production hot hatch to North America. The name GRMN stands for Gazoo Racing Masters of Nürburgring, signaling that this is the most extreme production Corolla ever built. The car was developed using lessons from Toyota's Super Taikyu endurance racing program in Japan and extensively tested at the Nürburgring in Germany.
Powertrain and Chassis Upgrades
Power comes from an evolution of the turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine. Horsepower remains at 300, but torque increases from 295 to 302 lb-ft, with more torque available between 4,000 and 4,600 rpm for improved corner exit acceleration. Toyota added an intercooler spray system and a sub-radiator to maintain consistent performance during sustained track use. The only transmission available is a close-ratio six-speed manual — no automatic option is offered. The suspension has been fully retuned for track-focused driving dynamics.
Aerodynamics and Weight Reduction
The GRMN Corolla receives extensive aerodynamic upgrades, including additional front vents for improved cooling and a large adjustable rear wing for increased downforce. Carbon fiber is used throughout to reduce weight. Toyota stripped the rear seats — mirroring the approach taken with the previous Morizo edition — cutting 66 pounds from the base GR Corolla. Inside, special GRMN sport seats are wrapped in black and red suede and synthetic leather, with GRMN logos embroidered on the headrests. Production will be in Japan, with sales in Japan, Australia, and North America. Full pricing and specifications are expected later in 2026.
