Best Floor Mats for the Chevy Trax, Trailblazer and Buick Envista: Subcompact Crossover Protection

Best Floor Mats for the Chevy Trax, Trailblazer and Buick Envista

Subcompact crossovers may be smaller than full-size SUVs, but their interiors still deal with plenty of dirt. The 2026 Chevrolet Trax, for example, offers 25.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 54.1 cubic feet with them folded ([7]). That is enough for hiking gear, firewood or a dog crate, all sitting above a carpeted floor.

Autumn can be especially hard on that interior. Wet leaves, mud and road salt are easily carried inside on shoes and quickly end up on the carpet.

This guide looks at floor mat fitment for the Chevrolet Trax, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Buick Envista. It explains why the Trax and Envista can use the same mat set, why the Trailblazer needs a different one and which areas floor mats cannot protect.

Why Do the Chevy Trax and Buick Envista Use the Same Floor Mats?

At first glance, the Chevrolet Trax and Buick Envista look like two different crossovers, but underneath they have a lot in common. They share the same 106.0-inch wheelbase, both seat five and both come with front-wheel drive ([6])([7])([9]).

That shared layout means the floor shape is very similar, so our 2024 to 2026 floor mat set is designed to fit both models ([1]). It fits the Trax ACTIV, LS, LT and RS, along with the Envista Avenir, Preferred and Sport Touring ([1]).

The main difference is in the cargo area. The Envista is longer overall, at 182.6 inches compared with 178.6 inches for the Trax, but its sloping roof leaves less space behind the rear seats. The Envista offers 20.7 cubic feet, while the Trax provides 25.6 cubic feet ([7])([9]).

Because the cargo areas have different shapes, the trunk mat included in our set fits the Chevrolet Trax only ([1]). The front and rear floor mats fit both vehicles, while Envista owners will need a separate solution for the cargo area.

Which Floor Mats Fit the Chevrolet Trailblazer?

The Chevrolet Trailblazer uses a different platform from the Trax, so it needs a dedicated floor mat set.

There is also an important difference between FWD and AWD versions. FWD models use a 1.2-liter turbo engine with a continuously variable transmission, while AWD models pair a 1.3-liter turbo engine with a nine-speed automatic ([8]). These layouts can affect the shape of the transmission tunnel and rear footwells.

Our 2021 to 2026 Trailblazer floor mats are designed specifically for AWD models ([2]). Because the liners are molded to follow the floor contours, they are not intended for FWD versions.

Before ordering, check the drivetrain on the VIN, window sticker or build sheet.

How Do the Trax, Trailblazer and Envista Compare?

Here is a quick comparison of the specifications that are most relevant when choosing floor mats.

Why Is TPE a Good Choice for All-Weather Floor Mats?

TPE, or thermoplastic elastomer, works well for all-weather floor mats because it can be molded to follow the shape of the vehicle floor while staying flexible in changing temperatures.

For our floor mats, we use Thorex, our proprietary TPE material. It is odorless, contains at least 50 percent recycled material and is designed to perform in temperatures from -4°F to 167°F ([1])([4]). An independent review by The Drive also noted that the material won't curl or crack at -50°F, which is relevant for northern-climate use ([4]).

Material is only part of the equation. The shape of the liner also matters. Our molded floor liners follow the contours of the footwells and transmission tunnel, while raised edges help keep water, mud and other debris away from the carpet underneath ([4]).

Why Does the Chevy Blazer EV Need Different Floor Mats?

The Chevrolet Blazer EV has a different floor layout from the Trax, Trailblazer and Envista, so it needs a mat set designed specifically for its platform.

For 2024 to 2026, our Blazer EV set also fits the Honda Prologue and Cadillac Lyriq, since all three use the same General Motors EV platform ([3]).

That platform changes the floor layout. With the battery mounted underneath, the footwells have a different shape and depth from those in gasoline-powered models. As a result, mats made for the Trax or Trailblazer will not sit correctly in the Blazer EV.

Our Blazer EV set includes front and rear floor mats, a trunk mat and seat back mats ([3]), providing protection for both the passenger area and cargo space.

What Should Fleet Buyers Check Before Choosing Floor Mats?

Fleet vehicles usually cover more miles and change drivers more often than privately owned cars, so the interior can wear out faster. Keeping the carpet protected can also help reduce cleaning or replacement costs when a vehicle is returned, sold or sent to auction.

Carpet cleaning can cost around $150 to $250, while partial carpet replacement may reach $300 to $600 ([4]).

For fleet use, a few practical details matter most:

  • Easy cleaning. Our molded liners can be removed, rinsed and wiped down, which makes them easier to deal with between drivers or shifts.
  • Correct fitment. Always match the mats to the model, year and drivetrain. This is especially important with the Trailblazer, since our current set is designed for AWD models only ([2]).
  • Warranty and stock management. Our Trax and Envista floor mat set comes with lifetime coverage ([1]). Since the same set fits both models, fleets that use both vehicles can also keep fewer replacement sets in stock.

What Areas Do Floor Mats Not Protect?

Floor mats protect the footwells, but they do not cover every part of the interior. Dirt and spills can still reach the seats, door sills, seat backs and other exposed surfaces.

Other limits include:

  • Cargo area. Cargo protection usually requires a separate trunk mat.
  • Areas under the seats. Second-row liners stop around the seat rails, so dirt and small objects can still reach the carpet underneath the front seats.
  • Gaps around universal mats. Trim-to-fit mats may leave parts of the footwell exposed, allowing water or mud to reach the carpet.

Check which pieces are included in the set if you also want to protect areas beyond the passenger footwells.

Why Does Proper Floor Mat Fitment Matter for Safety?

Even a high-quality floor mat can become a safety risk if it is not installed correctly. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, pedal entrapment can occur when a mat moves out of position, when mats are stacked or when the wrong mat is used for the vehicle ([10]).

The issue has led to major recalls in the past. In 2009, 3.8 million vehicles were recalled because of floor mat pedal entrapment, followed by another 1.1 million vehicles in January 2010 ([10]).

To reduce the risk, always remove the original carpet mat before installing an aftermarket liner. The new mat should also connect securely to the vehicle's factory retention hooks so it cannot slide toward the pedals.

What Should You Check Before Buying Floor Mats?

Before placing an order, take a minute to check that the mats match your exact vehicle. Start with the model year, then look at the drivetrain if you drive a Trailblazer, since our current set is made for AWD versions.

It is also worth thinking about how much of the interior you want to protect. If you regularly carry groceries, sports gear, pets or anything else in the back, check whether the set includes a trunk mat or whether you will need one separately.

Finally, look at the factory anchor points in the front footwells. The liners should lock into place securely and the original carpet mats should be removed before installation rather than left underneath.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Chevy Trax floor mats fit a Buick Envista?

Yes. Our 2024 to 2026 floor mat set fits both the Chevrolet Trax and Buick Envista ([1]). The passenger-area mats are shared between the two models, but the included trunk mat is for the Trax only.

Will AWD Trailblazer floor mats fit a FWD Trailblazer?

No. Our Trailblazer set is made for AWD models from 2021 to 2026 ([2]). If you are not sure which version you have, check the VIN, window sticker or build sheet before ordering.

Can Chevy Blazer EV floor mats fit a Chevy Trax?

No. The Blazer EV has a different floor layout because it is built on an electric platform. We offer a separate set for the Blazer EV, Honda Prologue and Cadillac Lyriq ([3]).

Do our floor liners cover the cargo area too?

Not always. The main floor liners cover the passenger footwells, while the cargo area needs its own trunk mat. Some of our sets include one, so it is worth checking the product contents before you buy.

Can Thorex TPE handle winter temperatures?

Yes. Our Thorex TPE is designed for temperatures from -4°F to 167°F ([1])([4]). A published review also found that the material remained intact at -50°F ([4]).
